First of all you  should  know  the type of mental  illness the person  you are caring for  has. Knowing and understanding  the illness  helps you to provide  the necessary  and appropriate  support.

These  people  need to be supported, it can be either  physically  or emotionally. Offer empathy  and encouragement  to  them. This helps to make them feel loved  and  valued.

If you  feel  you  are struggling  with  helping  them , than seek  support. You can ask your  family  members, friends, or mental health  professionals  to  provide  you  with guidance. Take care of  yourself and interact with your friends and family as caring for mentally ill people sometimes affects your mental health.

Your Health in Mind

Do not forget,  taking  care of   someone  who is mentally ill requires  patience, responsibility,  understanding and  self care  to nurture a healthy relationship while you are  helping  him or her to recover.
